DSLR Video Workshop - June 2, 2010
Learn from experienced filmmaker Nate Clarke how to create HD video projects using the latest DSLR cameras.
A Lucent Room Workshop – Using a DSLR to Shoot Video
They’re the latest must-have cameras in the videography and photojournalism fields – DSLRs that shoot video as well as cameras three times their size (and price). The images are beautiful but they come at a cost – a learning curve that can be steep and a workflow that can be awkward. At this Lucent Room Workshop, we’ll cover what you need to know to use DSLRs to efficiently capture and edit stunning images.
NOTE – We will primarily be covering Canon cameras and an Apple OS X workflow. However, most of the principles that we address will be transferable to Nikon and Windows.
Topics Covered
- Big Picture - DSLR Video - Why you should (and shouldn’t) use a DSLR to shoot video
- Gearing Up for DSLR Video – What equipment you need to get great images and great audio
- Shooting Video with a DSLR – How to make the most of the opportunities and limitations that DSLRs present
- Post-Production Workflow – How you get the images from the memory card to the client’s eyes.
- Hands-On with a DSLR - An hour of time to experiment with DSLR video cameras
- This full day workshop covers many topics including cost; scalability; flexibility; lens selection & depth of field; audio; handheld vs camera support options; transcoding & formats; ergonomics; rolling shutter; quality; limitations; hardware configuration; 3rd party viewfinders and other products; ISO; shutter speeds; using filters; camera movement; post-production workflow; audio sync; editing; color correction; output for optical media or online formats.
Who Should Come
Videographers – The DSLR can be a powerful tool but it thinks and works differently than a traditional video camera. While many of your creative ideas will be the same, it requires different technical know-how in order to get the most out of the camera.
Photographers – Many photographers already own a DSLR capable of shooting broadcast quality video. We’ll help you understand the unique requirements for shooting video so you can get the most out of your DSLR.
